When a shaft is flexed, there is one point along its length that becomes the most bent. In technical language: It's the place where the radius of curvature is the shortest. This is called the "kick point" and it is not the same for all shafts. The taper of a shaft and its internal construction determine where the kick point will be and how sharply defined it is.
The significance of the kick point is how it affects trajectory. In gross terms, the kick point acts as a hinge, concentrating flex at a particular location on the shaft. If the kick point is low on the club, the head will hinge around a shorter radius and the head will pivot skyward faster during impact, resulting in a ball that will take a higher initial trajectory than if the kick point was located further up the shaft.
Taylor's Bubble shaft pushes the kick point down very low to the club head - but also distributes the kick point over a larger region of the shaft, making the shaft feel more like a unified rod. Cobra's latest irons have shafts with a pronounced swelling near the ankle of the club (that part of the shaft just above the hosel). This makes a sharply-defined kick point just above the bulge and gives a subjective "two-piece" feel.
